Jason Kenney sounds off on Carbon Tax and Bill C-69

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Jason Kenney taking time out Wednesday to respond to what he sees as threats from the Prime Minister over the carbon tax.

Kenney says let it be clear, if Alberta voters allow him to form government, then priority number one will be to repeal the contentious issue in the province.

“The Carbon Tax is all economic pain and no environmental gain,” said Kenney. “It makes everything more expensive, filling up our gas tanks, heating our homes, running a business, a school board, or a charity. All of this becomes more expensive with no measurable gain for the environment.”

The Opposition Leader says he’s pleased more and more provinces are joining Saskatchewan’s legal battle and if this province were to join, he’s confident it could win.

The latest province to join is New Brunswick, as both the Liberals and Progressive Conservatives out east vow to fight the federal measure.

“It is time that we had a rational conversation about this. And let’s focus on ways to reduce carbon emissions that can help the rest of the world do that through research and development, science and technology. We will be offering an alternative plan in next spring’s election.”

Kenney also says Bill C-69 is the “No Pipelines” Act and Alberta Minister’s Phillips and McCuaig-Boyd don’t have the sway needed to get it stopped.

“I would say they are too late to the game. The day Bill C-69 was introduced I said it was the worst possible bill at the worst possible moment for Alberta,” Kenny explained. “I immediately wrote the Premier and offered to work together with her to speak with one voice against C-69. She did not respond.”

The Calgary MLA says he suggested the Premier send her ministers to Ottawa to fight the bill and he was mocked.

Kenney’s now written to the Senate Natural Resources Committee asking for an opportunity to appear and speak on what he believes are the vast majority of Albertans.
