Home for Heroes Village to provide support for homeless veterans

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Some veterans in need of affordable housing in Calgary, are getting a helping hand from the Homes for Heroes Foundation.

The first Homes for Heroes Village is scheduled to open for the first half of 2019, each house will be 275 square feet and feature a kitchen, bathroom and living area.

Stephen Wile is with the Mustard Seed and says the problem of homeless veterans is bigger than some people realize.

“We do see a significant number of veterans coming through our door, a lot of times we don’t know until we’ve developed a relationship with them because…they really have to self disclose,” says Wile.

Wile estimates there are between 250 and 300 homeless veterans in Calgary.

The housing will be paired with support structures for things like counselling.
