Day-long youth hiring fair hits Calgary

Hundreds of youth in Calgary could be hired on the spot Friday.

Nearly one million young Canadians aged 15 to 29 are Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) says Richard Derham, Lead Executive of Opportunity For All Youth.

That’s why the coalition is hosting its first ever day-long hiring fair for vulnerable youth in the atrium at City Hall.

Derham says more than 350 NEET youth will have the chance to fill 160 jobs and they’ve all been preparing for the process.

“By the time the employers actually meet them, those individuals are incredibly well versed (…) in the culture of the companies and the job expectations,” says Derham.

Derham adds that the coalition is striving to hire 40,000 NEET youth over the next five years.
