Didsbury gets new fire chief after HR issues

DIDSBURY (660 NEWS) – An interim fire chief has been hired in Didsbury, after a series of resignations earlier this year.

Didsbury’s Manager of Protective Services Deron Reimer will assume the post for the time being until a replacement can be found.

In July five firefighters resigned from the department following an investigation conducted by the Town of Didsbury reviewing internal concerns.

By the time of the announcement on Wednesday, there were only 16 active members in the department.

A recruitment drive is now underway to rebuild membership.

The investigation identified several areas in need of improvement, including the leadership of previous Chief Craig Martin, who resigned on Tuesday, months after the initial findings.

In Wednesday’s announcement, council members were also told the results of their fire safety audit are in and should be made public within the coming weeks.
