CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he wants the City’s integrity commissioner to investigate a leak of information about a 2026 Olympic bid to the CBC.
The national broadcaster received documents showing the cost estimate released publicly did not take into account the full price of building an athlete’s village at the Victoria Park transit centre.
Nenshi says a full investigation could include an audit of council member’s phones and other electronic devices.
“It’s very clear that under the Municipal Government Act, as well as under the City of Calgary’s Code of Conduct Bylaw, you actually cannot leak confidential information,” he said Monday. “Regardless of what it’s about or the benefits of getting it out there, you just can’t do it.”
Coun. Diane Colley-Urquhart supported the move, saying it should send a chill through the chamber.
