Music event expected to draw 55K nightly in downtown Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Thousands of music fans are expected this weekend in downtown Las Vegas for a sixth-year outdoor festival covering some 18 city blocks.

Police promise tight security for the “Life is Beautiful” event, including a close watch at nearby hotel, commercial and residential high-rises, as the anniversary approaches of an Oct. 1 mass shooting at a different concert on the Las Vegas Strip.

Deputy Police Chief Andrew Walsh tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal there will be uniformed and plainclothes officers inside and outside the festival where organizers expect 55,000 ticket-holders Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.

Police plan aerial surveillance and security bag searches at festival gates.

Security also will be tight at The Ogden condominiums, where authorities found the Oct. 1 shooter booked a room last year during the downtown festival.
