Ministers mum on Trans Mountain plans heading into morning meetings

OTTAWA (660 NEWS) – Federal cabinet ministers are keeping mum about whether or not they will be deciding today on a plan of action for the Trans Mountain pipeline.

A court ruling last month scrapped the approval of the project due to a lack of consultations with Indigenous peoples, and a lack of consideration for the environmental risk.

Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott wouldn’t provide details on the path forward for the government.

“Well, this is something that court has been very clear about and we will obviously listen to the advice and you’ll hear more about the plans soon,” she told reporters on Parliament Hill Tuesday morning, but she wouldn’t say if a decision is coming, only saying she’ll leave that up to someone else to comment on.

Natural Resources Minister Amarjeet Sohi also dodged questions about the plans for the pipeline on his way into meetings.

In an interview with Maclean’s, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they are considering all options, which includes an appeal of the ruling, but he also discussed the need to make accommodations and address the concerns raised by the courts.

Reports say the government may hire a former judge to lead that process, but ministers refused to confirm that on their way into their cabinet meeting Tuesday morning.
