Most Canadians confused where to obtain cannabis, post-legalization

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Despite all the news about the upcoming legalization of pot, a new survey finds most Canadians have no idea where they will be able to buy it.

Over 1,500 people were surveyed across the country, and more than half didn’t know where they will be able to buy legal cannabis next month.

“Legalization is coming up very quickly, but we have some big, big gaps in consumer knowledge,” says Matei Olaru, CEO with cannabis data and education company Life & Co.

He says with the current number of illegal dispensaries still around, there is cause for concern.

“What I could see happening is the average consumer on [Oct. 17th] and beyond thinking, ‘Hey, this store is open. It must be legal. It must be a legal source.”

B.C. will have only one cannabis store open for business when recreational pot becomes legal next month.

Meanwhile, Quebec has 14 announced stores. Cannabis in Ontario will only be sold online until at least April, 2019.
