Woman mauled to death by her own dog

LANGDON (660 NEWS) – A horrible incident is under investigation east of Calgary. Strathmore RCMP say a dog attack has left a woman dead and a child in hospital.

The attack took place at a home near the community of Langdon, around 6 p.m. Saturday.

“Emergency crews and RCMP were called to a dog attack at a residence,” said Staff Sergeant John Spaans.

“The investigation has found that the dog, a boxer-pitbull-cross, attacked a three-year-old toddler, before turning its aggression on an adult female… The 49-year-old female did suffer fatal wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.”

The woman was the owner of the dog and it happened in her own home. The young girl is in a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“It’s my understanding that the toddler was visiting at the time of the incident and the adult female, it was her residence and her dog.”

He also says the toddler and the woman were related to each other.

Witnesses say the pet had not shown previous signs of aggression and was otherwise well behaved.

The dog, along with a second canine will spend 10 days in quarantine before the courts or other owners decide what will happen.
