Shelter Box sends team to help the Phillipines rebuild

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – While the world watches Typhoon Mangkhut roar through the Philippines before turning toward southern China, many are wondering how they can help.

Shelter Box, a disaster relief organization, has a team ready to provide ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits for individuals affected by the disaster.

Executive Director of Shelter Box Canada, Stephanie Christensen said they have been in contact with local officials.

“We have a team on the way and we will be able to provide shelter in some of the worst hit areas that wouldn’t otherwise receive aid.”

The relief kits include a variety of recover items.

“We can provide our high-tech tents that are good to 100 kilometre per hour winds and monsoon rains or our ShelterKits which are heavy duty tarps, tools and building materials that allow people to repair and rebuild their homes,” said Christensen.

“Along with that, we provide the things families need to start recovery, solar lights, mosquito nets, blankets, cooking equipment, and water purification.”
