Looking to get away? Fall is the perfect time, says travel expert

Sure, the doors are closing on summer 2018, but that doesn’t mean you should shy away from holidays.

September is one of the best times for a getaway, or so says travel blogger Jody Robbins. She says Waterton Lakes National Park in southwestern Alberta is a great destination.

“They’re seeing their lowest occupancy rates in 10 years, which translates to cheaper accommodations!” shares Robbins. “So you can go horseback riding, rent kayaks.”

If you’re looking to take a dip, Robbins tells Breakfast Television head to the Okanagan.

“Up until Thanksgiving, you can still do all the water activities. For fall colours go to an orchard. Appleooza is a festival taking place at Scenic Road Cidery on September 22nd,” she says.

“The following weekend, September 27th until October 7th is the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival.”

She says with fewer people out and about, fall is absolutely the time to visit Kelowna. If you’re willing to travel a little further for your fun, the U.S. Pacific Northwest has some incredible, and scarcely-used, beaches according to the expert.

“I was just in Oregon and I was blown away by how amazing their beaches were–it looked to me like Hawaii! A lot of people don’t realize that we have direct flights from Calgary to Portland on Air Canada, two flights a day. And those beaches are not that busy.”

Calgary to Portland is an hour-and-10-minute flight. Are your kids itching to visit the Happiest Place on Earth? It’s not too late to book that flight to Disneyland.

“Reportedly, the quietest time is the week after U.S. Thanksgiving,” she says, suggesting you aim for the last week of November or early December.
