FREDERICTON – There’s no shortage of volunteers as the small city of Fredericton handles the logistics of thousands of police officers and other first responders arriving for a regimental funeral Saturday.

They are coming from across the continent to be part of the funeral for Fredericton police constables Robb Costello and Sara Burns, who were killed responding to a shooting that also claimed the lives of Donnie Robichaud and Bobbie Lee Wright.

Const. Robb Hartlen of the Kensington, P.E.I., police force, says so many people want to do something to help.

Hartlen, whose hometown is Fredericton, has organized drivers to ferry people to and from the Fredericton airport.

Const. Sara O’Toole of the Kingston, Ont., police, arrived Friday and says every officer can identify with the dangers of the job, and feel the need to come together to console each other.

The visiting first responders are filling up Fredericton hotels or staying with colleagues, while many have also been billeted out to the homes of people who have offered a room.
