July was a slow month for new home construction in Calgary.
There were 300 single-detached starts in July: down 30 per cent from the same month last year, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
Taylor Pardy with CMHC says even though July was slower, the year-to-day picture is similar to 2017.
“The starts are down slightly, but overall for the year so far we’re actually seeing starts keeping relatively good pace with what we saw last year,” said Pardy.
While fewer single-detached homes are being built so far this year, apartment and condo starts are up.
