Heat wave in Calgary means water demand is high

Water is in high demand as we reach record temperatures in Calgary.

While officials with the City of Calgary do not yet have this year’s water consumption numbers, based on 2017, they are expecting an increase.

“We did see an increase about 14 per cent because of the hotter and drier conditions last year,” said Harpreet Sandhu with the City of Calgary.

She said Calgary might experience an increase this year, but they aren’t worried about running out of water.

“We’re confident we have enough water supply to meet our water demand, and Calgarians have done a great job of conserving water,” she said, adding there are tips and tricks on the city’s website.

She explained even though there’s enough water to go around, the City is always looking at ways to improve water consumption and conservation.

“We do want to have a conversation maybe in the next year, or two about, you know, what can we do more around drought and climate change,” she said.
