Observatory hosts Mars Night

It’s a cold desert world, but Mars will burn bright Tuesday night.

The red planet will be at its closest approach to earth and you can watch it during Mars Night at the Rothney Astrophysical Observatory.

Dr. Phil Langill told 660 NEWS what star gazers will be able to see: “It’s stunning how bright and red it is and because it’s close to the earth it looks really cool through a telescope, you can actually see a big red ball floating in the sky,” he said.

The gates at the observatory are open from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

And, since it’s a fair weather event, updates will be posted on the Observatory’s website and Twitter feed, if there is too much cloud cover or rain.
