The Calgary Stampede isn’t letting sweets and treats go to waste.
A hotline has been set up to collect leftovers from food and beverage vendors and bring them to social agencies in need, like Alpha House, or the Food Bank.
Stampede Environmental Consultant Austin Lang said Tuesday was their best day so far; they collected 145 pounds of food.
“Not only do we start to divert more and more waste which is also kind of our main goal as an environmental program at Stampede, but we’re also able to help the community out,” he said.
Lang said they are gearing up for Sunday, when all the vendors begin moving out their stuff and a big haul of donated food.
