Parks Canada app makes mountain adventures easier

A slew of new updates on the Parks Canada app may make your long weekend even more enjoyable.

Valerie Chartrand with Parks Canada says they listened to feedback and decided to have maps available, even when you are out of cellular data range.

“Ninety-five per cent of the features of the app are available offline, so all of the features on the maps for example will still work because of the fact that this is using your GPS and not data,” she said. “So you will still be able to find locations in proximity and you’ll still be able to use all of these search features.”

The free mobile device app will allow users to get a closer look at areas in and around Banff, and view a list of insider tips, including more on the 64 hiking trails that wind deep into the Rocky Mountains.
