No survivors as missing plane found in B.C.

A plane that took off from Springbank Airport was found northeast of Hope, B.C. with no survivors on board on Friday morning. (Google Maps)

The wreckage of a small plane missing from Calgary has been found in B.C. with no survivors on board.

The Cessna 182 with two on board was headed to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island after taking off from Springbank Airport on Thursday.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Victoria says the aircraft was found northeast of Hope, B.C. early Friday morning in mountainous terrain.

The case has now been passed to the B.C. Coroner’s Service and RCMP.

Search and Rescue are sending thoughts to the two individuals who were aboard the plane.

The pilot of the aircraft has been identified as Ken Umbach, a retired geophysicist.

His friend has not been identified.
