Hutcheson named chair of Calgary bid corporation as city explores bidding on 2026 Games

CALGARY – Real estate entrepreneur Scott Hutcheson has been named the chair of Calgary’s Olympic bid corporation as the city continues to explore the possibility of bidding to host the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The corporation will be tasked with ensuring Calgary is prepared to go forward with a bid should the city decide it’s ready to host the Winter Games for a second time.

The deadline for cities to submit 2026 bid books to the International Olympic Committee is January.

The cost of holding the sports spectacle will be a chief concern.

The Calgary Bid Exploration Committee estimated almost a year ago the 2026 Winter Games will cost $4.6 billion, with games revenue covering almost half.

Calgary became the first Canadian city to host the Winter Olympics in 1988.
