Travel: Water parks and adventure in Red Deer

You don’t have to go west to the mountains to find adventure in Alberta.

When was the last time you took a trip to Red Deer?

Travel Writer Jody Robbins says the city is about to open Alberta’s first open-air water park.

“It’s got a 50-foot tower, overhead climbing wall, water slides, oversized trampoline, a trapeze swing. It kind of looks like a bouncy castle on a lake,” said Robbins.

“June 6 it starts to open up on weekend, until July long and then starting July long, it’s open every single day for the season.”

There’s also Discovery Canyon, where kids can tube down a lazy river, and mom and dad can get in some recreation too.

“The best part if you’re going there with older kids, is there’s a golf course right next door to Discovery Canyon. So, you can drop the kids and then you can go golfing.’

Coming up on June 23, Red Deer’s Heritage Ranch hosts Foam Fest.

“You race your way through 20 obstacles, including the world’s largest inflatable water slide, mud pits and 2.5 million cubic feet of foam.”
