Calgarian rides across Canada for STARS

A Calgary man is cycling across the country to raise money for STARS.

Guy Leblanc says he’s making the trek to thank the air ambulance organization for flying his best friend to hospital after a mountain bike accident in 2016.

He and Jeremy Carabeo were out near Bragg Creek when Jeremy crashed, suffering a brain injury and other issues.

Jeremy, who is doing much better now, tells 660 NEWS he is grateful.

“It’s a very important service and during critical moments where, for example with my incident, where there weren’t any accesses for vehicles that air rescue would have to be needed for support,” said Jeremy.

Leblanc says Jeremy was unconscious at the scene.

“He had a brain injury and also a shoulder injury as well and wrist, so that’s why we needed STARS right away and also it was a bad area (in the forest.)”

He says they were also incredibly lucky that day because Calgary physician, Dr. Marshall Ross, was right behind them on the trail and helped Jeremy, calling STARS to fly him to the Foothills hospital.

Leblanc expects to take about three months to bike from Vancouver to St. John’s, Newfoundland.
