Tsuut’ina Nation is slashing its utility bills at a new sportsplex in the community thanks to a $2.1 million grant from the Alberta Government.
On Wednesday, the province and community announced the funding for the Seven Chiefs Complex, a building under construction that will include an ice plant and water systems that will take $89,000 a year off electricity and heating costs.
Chief Lee Crowchild says with plans for a multi-million dollar development on his reserve, this starts a new era for the community.
“What better way to launch the new era by putting our collective creativity and innovation to protect our environment and address climate change. We are very grateful for the government’s support in providing the funding, a gift that will keep on giving for decades to come,” said Crowchild.
Minister of Indigenous Relations Richard Feehan says he’s proud to support Tsuut’ina, which has a long history of environmental stewardship.
