Federation Flight from B.C. to Alberta in support of Trans Mountain expansion

One hundred senior British Columbia business, indigenous, community and labour leaders boarded a flight in Vancouver and flew to Edmonton on the Federation Flight on Thursday.

They went to the legislature and met with Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and attended a special Edmonton chamber of commerce luncheon to meet with business people from Edmonton and Calgary.

Zoey Addington with the Calgary Chamber of Commerce told CityNews one purpose of the gathering is bridging the gap between the B.C. and Alberta governments over the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.

“We are allies as provinces as a business community and I think what often happens is that we hear from the most vocal extremes on both sides and I think there’s a lot of people that support Trans Mountain that are silent,” she said.

Addington added the flight and the meeting both represent each provinces willingness to come to the table and attempt to reach common ground on the project.
