It’s finally here! Panda Passage opens at Calgary Zoo

Panda Passage opened at the Calgary Zoo on Monday with Er Shun, Da Mao and cubs Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue ready to melt the hearts of Albertans.

The zoo boasts Panda Passage is “an exclusive, newly constructed habitat that promises to be a unique experience where you can discover so much about these charming and elusive animals.”

Two adults were loaned to Canadian zoos as part of a 10-year deal signed in 2012, and two cubs were born in Toronto.

On opening day, the youngsters were seen wrestling and rolling about their habitat.

Their father spent most of the time lazily lounging on a log and munching on a stalk of bamboo, while their mother was out of view.

Several dignitaries were on hand for the opening of the Panda Passage exhibit, including Alberta Premier Rachel Notley and federal Infrastructure Minister Amarjeet Sohi.

For those unable to attend the attraction Monday, there is still plenty of time. The pandas are on display for the next five years before they return to China.
