The Calgary Police Service is investigating after a man’s body was found inside a wall in the women’s washroom of the CORE Shopping Centre in downtown along 8 Avenue S.W.
Authorities were called at around 9:30 a.m. Monday when maintenance crews went into the fourth-floor washroom to do fix a broken toilet. A spokesperson with the CPS said the worker removed a metal panel near a toilet and discovered the body.
Police don’t believe the death is criminal in nature. The spokesperson added it’s a possibility that someone crawling through a vent or duct fell from above and got stuck in the wall.
Mall staff are also reviewing blueprints with police.
The body was removed around 3 p.m. and an autopsy is scheduled.
The investigation into when the victim died and how he ended up inside the wall is still ongoing.
