While most of the province is focused on oil and gas, the University of Alberta is putting solar energy in the spotlight.
The Solar Energy Society of Alberta is showcasing new technologies that reduce the cost of solar cells.
Executive Director Rob Harlan said Alberta is an ideal location for sustainable energy investment.
“We have this tremendous resource here, in part because we’re a dry climate, you know our ambient temperatures are cold year round and the photovoltaic effect actually is more efficient as temperature drops, so we’ve got a number of things going for us,” he said.
Harlan adds solar cells will become the cheapest source of electricity within the next 10 years.
