AMA and RCMP team up to make roads more courteous

The Alberta Motor Association has teamed up with the RCMP to breed more courtesy on the roads.

“AMA is proud to support a move that will make Alberta the first province to introduce mandatory courtesy wave legislation,” a narrator says in a video posted on April 1st.

The video says that by not following the rule, rude drivers face fines and five demerit points.

Okay, fine, it’s not real, and is an April Fool’s joke pulled off by the two organizations.

However, AMA spokesperson Ron Wilson says there’s some truth in the message.

“While this legislation isn’t real, we believe the video is a fun way of highlighting the need for traffic etiquette. Courtesy breeds courtesy, and we’re all part of one driving community, and every strong community begins with courtesy.”

Wilson adds a recent study found many members believe agressive driving has become worse in the province over the last three years.

He hopes this video gets people thinking about being more respectful to other drivers so everyone can get from point A to point B safely.
