After years of council having to go through every secondary suite application, one at a time, council has finally voted to make a change.
Elected officials voted 9 – 6 in favour of passing the motion that aims to keep the applications from cluttering up city council meetings and not forcing homeowners to disclose personal information in such a public forum.
The task, for the most part, will be handled by city administration and makes it mandatory to register it to ensure everyone knows whether a suite had been obtained.
Councillors Sean Chu, Peter Demong, Jeromy Farkas, Ray Jones, Joe Magliocca and Ward Sutherland voted against the motion.
While it passed, the issue did not go quietly into the night as the issue was part of marathon session as dozens presented to council during the course of the day and there were 900 letters, sent to council as part of public submissions.
