Man shot in Calgary’s northeast, neighbours not surprised

Calgary police are on the scene of a shooting in Marlborough after emergency crews were called out early Sunday morning.

The call came in around 2 a.m. reporting someone had been shot at a home in the 100 block of Marlyn Place N.E.

CPS Sergeant Duane Lepchuk tells 660 NEWS that when officers arrived they found a man with a single gunshot wound.

The victim was rushed to the Foothills Medical Centre in critical, life threatening condition. Police later said his condition improved and he was no longer suffering life threatening injuries.

Shortly after, he says three persons of interest were taken into police custody.

Investigators are still trying to determine what sparked the incident, but neighbours say this home is frequently monitored by police.

Terry Smith has seen more criminal activity in their normally quiet cul-de-sac.

“A hit and run down on my car, a stolen car down the street.”

This neighbour lives only a few doors down and wanted to stay anonymous. She noticed some suspicious activity lately.

“I wanna say maybe about two or three months ago, there was guys in and out, and I saw a weapon with one of them one time.”

There was also concern for a four-year-old boy who lived in the home, Katie lives across the street and says she would frequently welcome him in when he needed company.

“He’d come by, and he’d knock on the door, and ‘can I just come sit with you for a little bit?'”

Tajia Logan has lived in the area her whole life, and says Child Services took the boy away last year, but believes he is living with family.

“So I’m just thankful he wasn’t there. He was a sweet little boy,” said Logan.

She adds she is now concerned for her children, and while it is startling for this to happen across from her front door, it has been a long time coming.

“I was hoping it would never come to this. But I kinda had a feeling it was going to.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
