Supreme Court dismisses appeal in death of six-year-old girl

The Supreme Court of Canada has dismissed an appeal from a Calgary couple convicted in the 2011 beating death of their six-year-old daughter, Meika Jordan.

The girl’s father, Spencer Jordan, and stepmother, Marie Magoon, were initially convicted of second-degree murder in 2015.

Last year, the Alberta Court of Appeal upgraded the convictions to first-degree murder.

The two appealed that ruling.

The Supreme Court has dismissed their appeals with a 9-0 ruling from the bench.

Reasons for the decision will be formally released later.
