Missing dog walker, three dogs, found alive in Coquitlam back country

COQUITLAM (NEWS 1130) – Annette Poitras has been found alive and well in the Westwood Plateau region after an extensive three day search.

The 56-year-old disappeared along with three dogs Monday afternoon. She was located just after 11 a.m. today in the Coquitlam Watershed area. Police say Poitras is injured, but still able to speak with rescuers.

The dogs — Roxie, Chloe, and Bubba — were also found alive.

RCMP Corporal Michael McLaughlin made the happy announcement just before noon.

“She was found in a basin well into the Coquitlam watershed, so outside the normal areas you would expect on the trails, well north of the areas most people spend time doing recreation in,” he says.

Annette’s husband, Marcel Poitras, spoke to reporters with tears in his eyes at the search and rescue command post, moments after learning his wife was safe.

“Your mind kind of explodes. When you’re in this situation, the mind is a dangerous thing; it goes in all sorts of dark holes, and suddenly that just disappears.”

Poitras still has to be air-lifted out of the area. That operation is currently underway.
