City of Calgary responds to upset business owners along 17th Avenue

Business owners along 17th Ave. are calling out the City of Calgary , saying construction is taking longer than they were told it would and has more of the road closed than promised as well.

In response, Senior Project Engineer, Logan Tolsma, explains they decided to close 5 blocks at once because of complications installing tree trenches under sidewalks.

“In an attempt to make sure that work was continuing to progress for the year and not drag it out for potentially into more years, is we decided to move ahead even though we had delays on the east end,” said Tolsma.

He adds, work is always happening even though it may not look like it. ” We have underground crews at the west end, we are working on roads works, as you work east, street lighting, Telus, Enmax and Shaw are out there and we have landscaping crews and concrete going down at the far east end.”

Tolsma expects the block closest to MacLeod Trail to be completed next week and the next block will re-open the week after that.
