One of Canada’s fastest growing communities is expanding its boundaries right up to the edge of Calgary.
Chestermere is adding 650 hectares of development to its western border.
The development will be completed in 32 phases over the next 25 years and will include three schools, an extensive commercial district, new parks and a waterfront promenade.
Mayor Patricia Matthews said it will allow the city to almost double its population of 20,000.
“We’ve been planning for this for quite a long time, gone through the regular process with development, made sure that the public was informed and had an opportunity to talk to us about it and we have some new and interesting offerings that are going to bring those, not only 14,000 people, but brand new businesses here too,” she said.
According to Statistics Canada, Chestermere is the fourth fastest growing community in Canada over the past five years.
