Mayoral candidate asks for second look at mobile home deal

The clock is ticking on residents of Midfield Mobile Home Park, who have until September 30 to move out.

However, mayoral candidate Bill Smith wants the city to give them an extension.

“September 30 is an arbitrary date, I don’t see there is anybody moving in here on October 1,” Smith said.

He said there is still time to negotiate a better deal for residents, because currently the city has offered them $10-thousand in compensation and another $10-thousand to cover moving costs.

According to Smith, that is not a fair deal.

“They were given an option by the City of Calgary that they would be able to be moved from this location to another location, and in 2014 the city came back and said no, they were not going to be able to do that,” Smith said.

Smith added, there’s time to step back and make sure residents are getting what they deserve.

He would like the city to offer residents the market value of their mobile homes.
