Charges pending after crash kills two east of Calgary

Charges are pending after a two-vehicle collision in southern Alberta that killed two people and left several others injured.

RCMP say a minivan with seven occupants went through a stop sign at the intersection of highways 840 and 564 northeast of Calgary Monday afternoon and struck the side of a sport-utility vehicle.

Two people in the SUV were killed.

Everyone in the minivan suffered a variety of injuries — none of them life-threatening.

Both highways were closed for several hours while police investigated.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
