Tornado confirmed near Mannville

Environment Canada has confirmed a landspout tornado touched down in the Mannville area late Friday afternoon east of Edmonton.

These kinds of twisters are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms and generally, don’t cause damage.

Meteorologist Ron Mark says they have classified it as the weakest on the Fujita Scale.

“Based on a lack of damage the preliminary rating is an EF0,” said Mark.

It’s the second tornado in a week in Alberta, after an EF1 tornado touched down last Friday, north of Three Hills.
