A fundraising breakfast is opening up a dialogue on the impact of child abuse and domestic violence in the city.

Opening Doors is supporting Discovery House at the Bow Tower in Calgary.

Executive Director Monique Auffry said former NHLer and sexual abuse survivor, Sheldon Kennedy continues to be an important voice.

“Events like these shed light on the issue, the severity, it helps to reduce stigma around the subject matter and it allows people to come forward and feel like there’s a place to go,” she said.

Discovery House provides housing for abused women and children to live safely in the community.
