Premier heading to Washington, D.C. at end of month

Premier Rachel Notley is heading to Washington, D.C. at the end of the month to promote Alberta and highlight existing trade ties.

Notley says she plans to meet with as many policy holders as possible to remind them that supporting Canadian business helps US business when it comes to trade.

“What we learn from these roundtables will inform our plans going forward,” said the Premier. “Specifically, as they relate to upcoming discussions around trade, which means I need the best advice of our industry leaders before I travel south.”

She says an itinerary will be firmed up in the days to come.

“At this point, we’re just looking forward to trying to firm up the trip for the last week of February and we’ll have more information, more details to reveal and more to talk about with people as we get closer to it.”

Before she leaves, Notley will meet with representatives from Alberta’s oil and gas, agriculture, forestry, and manufacturing sectors to gather information and advice on the best way to make Alberta’s case.

Trade between Alberta and the United States totalled more than $100 billion in 2015.
