Officers punched and bitten during coffee shop arrest

A 35-year-old man is facing a number of charges following a fight with Calgary police.

On Thursday, police received a complaint about an unruly customer at a coffee shop in the Trans-Canada Mall on 52nd Street northeast.

Staff reported the man was acting erratic and aggressively towards other customers.

When police arrived, the man tried to get away. A scuffle broke out during which he punched both officers in the face and bit one of the officer’s hands.

Police tasered him after he pulled a knife from his pocket.

One of the police officers suffered a broken nose, broken cheek bone and lacerations to their hand during the incident.

Neville Geroca is charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest and numerous other offences.
