Hitmen drop weekend finale to Wheat Kings

Reid Duke scored four goals to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 6-1 victory over the Calgary Hitmen at the Saddledome Sunday afternoon.

Duke got a natural hat trick with two goals in the first, then another in the second. He got his final tally only nine seconds into the third period.

Beck Malenstyn was the lone goal scorer of the game, netting his 21st of the year halfway through the second period.

Calgary went through two goalies, with Trevor Martin going the first two periods, allowing four goals on 14 shots, then Kyle Dumba went between the pipes for the third period, allowing two goals on eight shots.

This brings an end to a tiring three game weekend for the Hitmen, picking up three of a possible six points.

They fell to the Regina Pats in overtime Friday, but beat the Kootenay Ice 8-3 on Saturday.

The loss drops the Hitmen season record to 18-21-7-2.

In the WHL standings, the Hitmen have 45 points, and are one point behind Saskatoon for second place in the wild card. In the Central Division, Calgary is in fourth place, six points back of the Red Deer Rebels.

Next up, the Hitmen hit the road to Kelowna to face the Rockets on February 1st.
