ASIRT: CPS justified in 2015 officer-involved shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has concluded no charges will be laid after an officer involved shooting from last year that left a man paralyzed.

On March 21, 2015, around 20 to 25 people gathered at City Hall for a planned, peaceful anti-racism rally.

A Caucasian man, with a shaved head, approached the group yelling “White Power” and held a clenched fist above his head.

Police quickly responded and the man fled. Eventually, officers cornered him in an alley.

With the aid of CCTV footage, ASIRT confirms the man punched an officer in the face and produced a pipe, which he threw at the officer’s leg. That’s when the man was shot and taken to hospital.

He survived his injuries, although damage to his spine has left him confined to a wheelchair.
