Over a million people live in the Calgary region and starting on Tuesday, they will have a brand new transit service to get then to and from Cowtown and Okotoks.
The provincial government will be supplying $500,000 a year for each of the next two years as part of a pilot project coordinated by the Calgary Regional Partnership.
Dubbed “On-It Calgary Regional Transit Services,” it will serve residents of the Calgary region in Turner Valley, Black Diamond, High River and Okotoks with trips into the Somerset- Bridlewood LRT station in Calgary every morning, with return trips in the evening.
Okotoks mayor Bill Robertson said citizens in Okotoks will pay $6 to get into Calgary, while for those in Turner Valley & Black Diamond, it’s only two dollars more.
“The buses will start in Turner Valley, then through Black Diamond, through Okotoks and into the LRT station in Calgary,” he said, adding the other run goes from High River through Okotoks into Calgary.
