Gasoline sales hit over 40 year low in Canada

A report out from Stats Canada says the amount of domestic oil being refined in this country hit the lowest level since 1973 in May.
Much of the blame goes to the Fort McMurray wildfire halting operations at many oilsands facilities.
But, another alarming stat is from this province, as per-capita gasoline sales in Alberta slid to a five year low.
Dan McTeague with GasBuddy.com says more fuel efficient vehicles are factors.
“That really is a small side story to the overall impact of so many people not having work,” he explained. “More importantly, [there are] those who aren’t filling up simply because there is nowhere to drive to.”
He hopes refineries are not shelved or mothballed because when the economy picks up, demand will rise and we don’t want to be even more dependent on gasoline supplies from other countries.
