Man in his thirties in life-threatening condition after rock-climbing fall

A man in his thirties is under doctor care at the Foothills Hospital, in life-threatening condition, after falling more than 20 metres Friday to a hard surface below.

EMS were called to Heart Creek Trail near Lac Des Arcs around 2:45 pm to find a reported mountain climber seriously injured.

One paramedic from a two-person crew hiked 20 minutes just to reach their patient and stabilize him first before transporting him.

EMS spokesman Adam Loria says they were later able to successfully move him with help from Alpine Helicopter and Kananaskis Country Public Safety to a nearby parking lot where STARS was waiting to move him to Calgary.

“Obviously we work very closely with different agencies and the number one goal in our mind and everyone’s mind is patient care, getting to them and getting them what they need. It might take more time to get there but we don’t want to injury anyone else in trying to reach him,” Loria said.

At last word he is being treated for “a variety of serious soft-tissue injuries and internal injury.”

There’s no word yet on what could have caused the fall or if he had the proper safety equipment.
