Energy Minister addresses Pacific NorthWest Economic Region conference

Alberta’s Energy Minister, Marg McCuaig-Boyd, had a chance to sell the province Tuesday morning, speaking to a group at the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region annual conference.

Inevitably, the conversation turned to pipelines.

The Republican Party in the U.S. has made it known it wants to push forward with the Keystone XL Pipeline Project. However, McCuaig-Boyd said until the election is over and they know who is in the White House, they don’t want to waste energy on it.

“We don’t want to waste effort on something until we see who the government is,” she explained. “Right now, we’re keeping our effort on the Canadian pipelines going east and west.”

That includes expansion plans of the Kinder Morgan – Transmountain line, but McCuaig-Boyd says she hasn’t heard much on that lately.

“The mood seems fairly positive as we move forward,” she said. “There’s always the odd thing that stops and it seems like things are going forward in a good manner.”

A decision on that project will come in December.
