Big brother keeping a close eye on security at Calgary Stampede

Police and security officials say Big Brother will be a big help as they prepare to enforce security at the Calgary Stampede.

The 10-day festival, which kicks off Friday with a parade, will have its own separate police district at the Stampede grounds.

District commander Insp. Leah Barber says it’s challenging to have roughly 100,000 people each day in the 240-acre park.
But she says, for the most part, those attending the event are only interested in having a good time.

The head of Stampede security, Paul Burrows, says there is an “extensive” number of security cameras on the grounds to keep watch over potentially rowdy individuals.

Security this year will also include a bag check to make sure nobody brings in illicit alcohol or weapons.
