Calgarians flock to Stephen Avenue for job fair

660 NEWS reporter Ian Campbell

A throng of people lined up near Stephen Avenue downtown Friday, but it wasn’t to soak up the sunshine.

The big turnout was for a jobs fair put on by Jobs Canada.

“It’s not that easy to go to each city and try to get people jobs, but we’ve had 700 people line up,” spokesperson Annie Peltea said.

She added anyone looking for work should visit the Jobs Canada website. (link: http://www.wbgcanada.com/)

“There are so many people, but not that many employers that are willing to hire, we have all these thousands of people desperate, looking for jobs.”

Those in line told 660 NEWS, people are going from working high-paying jobs to applying to places like McDonald’s and have to take whatever they can get.
