Calgary to mark Trans Day of Visibility

The Calgary Tower, Telus Spark, and other prominent buildings will be lit up in pink, blue and white for Trans Day of Visibility Thursday.

Amelia Marie Newbert of Pride Calgary tells 660 NEWS, there have been some major strides in the past few years, with changes in the Alberta Human Rights Code and support for transgender youth.

“That said, there is still a long way, and substantial hurdles to overcome to end discrimination and stigma that Trans individuals face on a daily basis,” she said.

She expects as many as 300 people to gather in the lobby of the Jack Singer Concert Hall Thursday for special events marking the day.

Transgender Day of Visibility has been marked internationally since 2009.
