Calgary mega projects on the line as the city waits for funding announcements

They’re all good proposals to help stimulate economic activity, but is there enough money available?

Three mega projects are on the drawing board in Calgary, all hoping they will receive some of the anticipated infrastructure spending announcements expected in the coming weeks from the city, provincial and federal governments.

Those looking for money include the $4.6 billion, 40 kilometre LRT Green Line, a $500 million expansion of the BMO Centre at Stampede Park and the $890 million Calgary Next Sports Complex.

Councillor Shane Keating tells 660 NEWS, the project or projects that will provided the biggest return for the city and Calgarians will likely win out.

“We have to look at not just for tomorrow, which ones the best bang for the dollar for tomorrow, but which ones the best bang for the long term as well. And I think that’s part of the huge evaluation,” he said.

Keating added he wishes they could fund all the proposed mega projects, but there is only so much money to go around.
