Passengers recount ‘flight from hell’ after severe turbulence diverts plane to YYC

One passenger, Joe, said it started out as normal turbulence and progressively got worse.
“We just kept telling ourselves ‘turbulence doesn’t down planes, turbulence doesn’t take planes down’. We just kept saying that, but it wasn’t fun.”
Karen said she witnessed one woman get thrown out of her seat.
“The girl sitting next to me got tossed out of her seat, because she was not (wearing a seatbelt).”
Gord flies a lot for work, and said it was an awful experience.
“It was the most turbulence I’ve ever felt. There was a pop can that actually landed on top of the overhead compartment and stayed up there, so we dropped quite a bit.”
Linda described the sharp drop.
“Suddenly, the flight is just going down and everything is really scary.”
Others said they saw passengers fly out of their seat and hit the top of the interior of the plane.
